With Vivo already opting out from IPL title sponsorship, reports are out that the BCCI might be in more trouble with sponsorship and finance for the mega event with just 40 days to go for the tournament to start.

With the ongoing tussle between China and India over border issue in Ladakh, it is now the RSS affiliated Swadeshi Jagaran Mancha that is dictating the sponsorship row. With Vivo gone, SJM is reportedly more aggressive by demanding stripping off Indian cricket sponsors like PayTM, Dream11, Byju’s, and others who are funded by the Chinese companies.

With the Cold war-like situation between China and India taking an overwhelming turn in the country, The RSS body takes the hard-line saying, Cricket has to choose between a self-reliant India and sponsors with Chinese money. Adamant SJM claims, sponsors like PayTM, Dream11, Byju’s receive Chinese funding and that is what has to stop. They feel cricketers dawning national colours are obliged to toe the line against Chinese businesses in India.

IPL 2020 set to start from September 19

Meanwhile, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has described the situation as a “blip”. According to him, the suspension of Indian Premier League’s title-sponsorship deal with Chinese mobile phone company Vivo is not a worrying point. He dismissed the claim that it might lead to a “financial crisis”.

IPL is all set to start from September 19, with the final scheduled to be played on November 10. Three venues in UAE will be used for a total of 60 matches. The teams have already started the preparations. Players and support staff will be put under bio-bubble. The complete schedule of IPL 2020 will be announced soon. IPL was supposed to start on March 29. But the tournament was postponed for an indefinite period due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The novel virus is still wreaking havoc across the country.
