One of the best cricketers of all time MS Dhoni recently announced his retirement from international cricket. His close friend and Chennai Super Kings (CKS) teammate Suresh Raina followed his footsteps. However, both cricketers will continue to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Now, former Indian cricketer, Aakash Chopra has come up with a unique suggestion. According to him, Dhoni and Raina should be allowed to play in foreign T20 leagues.
“I think they should be allowed because if they have retired and if they are not presenting themselves for selection for the Indian team, then there should be no harm in letting them go. There are two sides of this story, one is workload management”, the former cricketer said on his YouTube channel.
“BCCI does not let their contracted players go to play in overseas leagues because they do not want to risk an injury scare and, thus they are paying them enough money to stay put,” he added.
Former cricketers like Yuvraj Singh already played in overseas T20 leagues. He was featured in Global T20 Canada and the Abu Dhabi T10 league. Recently Pravin Tambe became the first Indian player to participate in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2020.
MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15. Millions of Dhoni fans were sad after hearing the news.
Just imagine how much fun it will be: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra believes that it will be fun to watch Dhoni and Raina in foreign T20 leagues. “So I think Dhoni and Raina should be allowed to play. Just imagine how much fun it would be to see them playing. I don’t see Dhoni playing in foreign leagues but Suresh Raina is just 33 and he will want to play more cricket,” he added.
Currently, Raina and Dhoni are preparing for IPL 2020. Both the players are taking part in a training camp in Chennai. They will soon fly to UAE.
