Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 is all set to start on September 19 in UAE. Organizing this year’s IPL has become a challenging task for the BCCI. But the Indian cricket board has successfully overcome all the hurdles.
However, they found themselves in a bit of trouble after Vivo, the title sponsor of IPL pulled out this year, citing Anti-China sentiments in India. The Chinese smartphone maker had signed a deal that is valid from 2018 to 2022. Now Vivo will come back as title sponsor of IPL next year.
On the other hand, the BCCI had called for fresh tenders for this year’s IPL. Several Indian companies including the Tata group had shown interest to become temporary sponsors for IPL 2020. They all had submitted their proposals for the same. Fantasy sports platform Dream 11 has beaten other applicants and came out victorious to become the title sponsor of IPL 2020. They will pay a whopping Rs 222 crore to the BCCI.
IPL 2020 schedule likely to be released soon
IPL 2020 will start on September 19 and the final will be played on November 10. But the complete schedule is yet to be announced. But as the title sponsorship issue sorted, the board may announce the same very soon.
All the matches will be played in three cities, namely Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. There have been talks about allowing some spectators in the stadium as well. But now decisions have been taken in this regard.
IPL 2020 was originally scheduled to start on March 29 in Mumbai. In the first match, last year’s champions Mumbai Indians (MI) were up against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). But the tournament could not be started on time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. IPL 2020 had to be postponed for an indefinite period. The cash-rich league was ultimately shifted out of India.
