The cricket world is well aware of the rivalry between India and Pakistan. It can be compared to something like Ashes. Fans of both countries wait for the Indo-Pak encounter. Cricket has come to a standstill position due to the spread of deadly coronavirus. Fans have to wait for sometime before any India-Pakistan clash can take place. However, the war of words between former players of both countries Shahid Afridi and Gautam Gambhir has made news headlines. Former Pakistan all-rounder has alleged in his autobiography ‘Game Changer’ that former India opener Gambhir has nothing but arrogance. He behaves as if he is a cross between Donald Bradman and James Bond.
Here is the tweet:
Gambhir is someone who never takes things lying down. Former cricketer turned BJP MP has given a befitting reply to Afridi. Gambhir said, Yes I have an attitude towards liars, traitors, and opportunists. In a twitter message, former India opener wrote, “Someone who doesn’t remember his age how will he remember my records! OK, @SAfridiOfficial let me remind u one: 2007 T20 WC final, Ind Vs Pak Gambhir 75 off 54 balls Vs Afridi 0 off 1 ball. Most imp: We won the Cup. And yes, I’ve attitude towards liars, traitors & opportunists.”
Gambhir-Afridi has often seen taking a dig at each other. Even during their playing days, they didn’t have a very good relationship. They often involved in many on-field spats. One such incident took place during Pakistan’s tour to India in 2007. India won the third ODI in Kanpur by 46 runs. But this match will be remembered for the clash between Gambhir and Afridi. They were seen throwing abusive words at each other. Gambhir was trying to take a single off Afridi. But the two collided in the middle of the pitch which sparked off altercation and no one was ready to back off. In the end Umpire, Ian Gould had to intervene so that the match progressed without any interruption.
