COVID-19 has put everyone’s lives in danger. The government across the world is fighting to keep the deadly virus at bay. All cricket events have either been canceled or suspended. We don’t know for sure when the situation will get back to normal. Meanwhile, there is some news about ICC rankings. According to the latest reports, India (114 points) is no longer the number one Test team in the world. The numero uno has been taken by Australia (116 points). India slipped to 3rd position in the ICC’s latest ranking. New Zealand (115 points) has grabbed the 2nd position.
“India has yielded the top spot for the first time since October 2016. This is mainly because India had won 12 Tests and lost just one Test in 2016-17, the records of which were removed in the latest update,” an ICC statement said, as published in India Today. The statement further added, “They had won all five series during this period including against Australia and England. On the other hand, Australia had lost to South Africa as well as to India in the same period.”
India still on top of ICC World Test Championship table
But all is not lost for India. Even though Virat Kohli-led team has lost top spot in ICC ranking, they are still the number one team in ICC’s World Test Championship table. Recently India did not have a very good time as far as Test format is concerned. They last played in this format in New Zealand. India lost the series by a 2-0 margin. Due to the spread of COVID-19, all cricketing activities along with this championship has been put on hold. Cricket fans have to wait for some time to again see their teams taking to the field.
