This year, the Indian Premier League (IPL) had to go through a lot of uncertainties. The tournament was first scheduled to start in March but it was postponed for an indefinite period following the COVID-19 pandemic. In the end, IPL 2020 was shifted to UAE. The matches are being played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.

Due to coronavirus, no spectators are allowed inside the stadium. So, the cricket fanatics have to enjoy the tournament either through television or via any internet platform which is live-streaming the cash-rich league. As most people are still stuck at home or working from home, this year’s IPL has become a huge hit as far as television viewership is concerned. This must be a very encouraging sign for the BCCI. The board president Sourav Ganguly had expressed his satisfaction a few days ago.

Now it has been learned that the television viewership of IPL 2020 has surpassed the English Premier League (EPL) viewership in the UK. As per the Broadcasters Audience Research Board (BARB) report, in the last few weeks, 2,50,000 people have watched IPL on their television or any other internet platform. Cricket Bet India reveals that from October 12 to 18, Sky Sports Cricket’s live viewers stand at 7,97,000. Last year this figure was 2,11,000. And the numbers are expected to go up in the coming weeks as well.

We have seen some exciting matches in this year’s IPL. The tournament is currently heading towards playoffs. Most of the teams are left with one or two group league matches. As the race for playoffs continues, there are some unexpected results well. One of the most consistent teams of IPL, Chennai Super Kings have already been knocked out from this year’s tournament. They have not played to their potential. Skipper MS Dhoni also looked a bit rusty.
