Coronavirus has created a pandemic situation in many countries across the world. The deadly virus has so far claimed more than 300,000 lives. And the more worrying sign is that the number of positives cases is going up every day. India is also suffering from COVID-19. To combat coronavirus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initially announced a nationwide lockdown until the 15th of April. However, after analyzing the current situation across the country, the central government decided to extend the lockdown until the 17th of May.

During the first phase of lockdown, only essential services were allowed to operate. All pubs, restaurants, bars remained shut. Though after reviewing present scenarios, the central government passed an order last Sunday. In its order, Narendra Modi-led government said, Liquor shops can open but they have to follow the necessary guidelines. People queuing up before liquor shops have to maintain social distancing. Accordingly, the shops opened their gates from Monday.

A large number of people were seen gathering before liquor shops from various parts of the country. It has been alleged that some people did not obey social distancing while buying alcohol. Police have taken necessary actions in a few places. Even some people started questioning if opening liquor shops is the right decision. Liquor prices have been increased. However, that didn’t deter people from buying their favorite drink after more than one month.

Cricket has come to a standstill due to COVID-19

Since the coronavirus outbreak, all cricketing actions have come to a halt. Much awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 has been postponed for an indefinite period. Many bilateral series including ICC World Test Championship has also met with the same fate. In this situation, all cricketers and coaching staff are spending quality time with their families. Meanwhile, as the liquor shops open and the raucous that followed, Twitter began trolling none other than the head coach of Team India Mr. Ravi Shahstri.

Former flamboyant cricketer Shastri is known to have the habit of drinking. Once he was seen with a beer can after India won a series. When former cricketer Sourav Ganguly became the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Twitter users trolled him. Some of them jokingly said, Now Shahstri will have a real tough time as Dada has become the BCCI boss. Similarly, after the liquor shops opened, people started trolling India’s head coach.
