The diplomatic relationship between India and China turned sour in recent times. Armed forces of both countries were involved in a scuffle in June which resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers. The incident took place near Ladakh’s Galwan Valley. Since then, there has been a huge uproar in India, where calls for banning Chinese products were raised as well. Besides, the Indian government recently banned several Chinese Apps including TikTok.

Chinese company Vivo is the title sponsor of the Indian Premier League (IPL). So, the pressure was mounted on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to end its association with the Chines phone maker. However, during the IPL governing council’s meeting, it has been decided that Vivo will continue to remain as the title sponsor for IPL 2020 as well. A BCCI official revealed this information to the media. He said, “The BCCI has taken this decision after the perusal of the sponsorship agreement and the ownership pattern and upon receiving legal advice in the matter.”

After India-China stand-off in June, the BCCI tweeted that they will take a call regarding IPL’s title sponsorship issue before the start of this year’s tournament. It has been decided that IPL 2020 will be organized in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). IPL’s governing council members met on Sunday to finalize the plan about the cash-rich league. On June 19, IPL’s official Tweeter handle wrote, “Taking note of the border skirmish that resulted in the martyrdom of our brave jawans, the IPL Governing Council has convened a meeting next week to review IPL’s various sponsorship deals.”

IPL final to take place on November 10

IPL governing council’s chairman Brijesh Patel had said that the tournament will begin on September 19 and the final will take place on November 8. However, the schedule of the final has been changed. During the governing council’s meeting on Sunday, it has been decided that the final of IPL 2020 will be played on Tuesday, November 10. This is for the first time that the final of the IPL will be organized on a weekday.
